VOLUNTEERS & GIVING
A critical ingredient of our ongoing success is the support of our community, both in the classroom and in the general functioning of our school.
Charter schools generally have a far higher degree of parent involvement, participation, and school governance than traditional schools; the absence of bureaucracy means we depend on parent volunteers to fill gaps and strengthen our operations.
Our parents are encouraged to be involved in day-to-day school activities at SHPA and are welcome in the school and in classrooms, whether visiting or volunteering. SHPA knows that parental involvement empowers parents by providing each family with a greater stake in our school’s success. There are other important ways to help, too.
Consider serving on the SHPA’s Board of Directors or joining school committees. We welcome help in the office, with planning school events, chaperoning field trips, working in the classrooms, or participating in fundraising activities or other projects. As part of your contribution, parents are also asked to support their students’ academic achievements by:
- Ensuring that students do their homework and read at home daily;
- Making sure students attend school except when there is an illness;
- Ensuring that students arrive on time at school in the mornings;
- Attending parent/teacher conferences;
- Ensuring that assignments missed due to excused absences are completed in a timely manner.
To that end, our parents are asked to voluntarily sign a copy of Family Support Pledge, asking each family to commit hours of volunteer time for SHPA each year. The Family Support Pledge provides parents the opportunity to indicate their areas of volunteer interest. Volunteer opportunities are emailed to parents specific to their areas of interest.
Elementary School families are asked to make a volunteer commitment of 40 hours throughout the year.
Middle School families are asked to make a volunteer commitment of 20 hours throughout the year.
Volunteer opportunities are listed in the Chronicles, teacher newsletters or by email to parents specific to their areas of interest (as indicated on the Family Support Pledge).
Both schools have a designated volunteer coordinator who match parent volunteers with volunteer opportunities. The volunteer coordinators can be reached at:
All volunteers will be required to fill out and submit a Background Check form (the form is below). If you prefer to complete the Background Check on line, please email Barb Mattson, Bloomington Campus, at email@example.com, or Tou Thao, Richfield Campus at firstname.lastname@example.org. You will then receive a link to complete the form on line.
Our school needs the generous support from our families, friends and community. Please consider donating to Seven Hills Preparatory Academy to help us continue to provide our students with a premier academic experience.
