Announcement of Base Learning Model to Begin 2020-21 School Year
Good Morning SHPA Families,
Last night, the School Board approved a resolution to start the 2020-21 school year with a hybrid learning model and equitable distance learning option for all families. This was a difficult and challenging decision in complex and unprecedented circumstances. We take the health and safety of our students and staff very seriously. We also know how important in-person teaching and learning is to the overall academic development and social-emotional well-being of children and adolescents. This is especially true for those students who receive special services and additional supports.
Please know this continues to be a fluid situation and there remains the possibility of changing the learning model prior to or at any point during the school year should circumstances warrant it. We continue to monitor our local conditions daily and receive weekly updates and ongoing guidance from the Minnesota Department of Education. Any decision to change the learning model will be determined in consultation with the Minnesota Department of Health and communicated to families as soon as possible and with adequate time to make planning adjustments.
Attached is an overview of our hybrid learning model. Additional details for this and our distance learning option will be presented at a virtual parent forum scheduled for next week Thursday, August 13, at 6:30 p.m.. If you are unable to attend, the materials will be made available for review afterwards. If you have not yet decided whether you prefer the distance learning option to start the year and would like additional details before making that decision, there will be a limited window in which to do so following the virtual parent presentation next week.
Thank you for your continued cooperation, commitment, and support as we plan for a safe and successful start to the school year.
Sincerely,
The SHPA Administrative Leadership Team
