Preparing for SHPA Middle School Return!Tou Thao
This coming Monday, March 15th, we will be welcoming back the SHPA Middle School to a 4 day In Person learning model with a virtual Advisory on Fridays at 8:40am and flex time until 12pm each Friday. At the same time, we will continue to provide a Distance Learning model for students that chose this model. Your child’s Advisor has provided important information including the daily schedule, expectations, and further information regarding this change. It is our goal to continue to deliver a high quality education and adequate support and student engagement. Students returning to in person learning will need to bring a backpack and a water bottle (optional). Students will be expected to wear a mask at all times, including in gym class. We are unable to use the student lockers at this time. We will continue to provide bins for students in their classroom.
Something new this Trimester is that students learning on site will receive 7th Grade Science and 8th Grade Language Arts while on campus through live streaming. Ms. Hoffman and Ms. Sequoia will teach the students live while they are off site. We will have a classroom supervisor on site for each class to assist with any technological issues and to ensure students are being supervised.
Important Notice to Family Requests for a Learning Model Change:
All students are expected to return to On Site Learning unless they started the school in Distance Learning. Any change from your original child’s learning model needed to be requested by February 12th. Therefore, we are not able to make any changes to your child’s current learning model unless your child has a medical circumstance that would require your child to change from On Site to Distance Learning.
Now that students are returning to in person learning, we encourage every family to get tested for COVID-19. Current recommendations from Minnesota Department of Health say that any children who spend time near people outside their immediate household should get tested every two weeks, through the end of the school year. Testing has never been easier – you can visit a community testing site, order an at-home test kit, or get tested through your health care provider. All options are quick and free to you. You can sign your entire family up to get tested at the same time at a community testing site. If someone in your family prefers to speak in another language besides English, in-person or language line assistance is available. Visit Getting Tested for COVID-19 or contact your health care provider to schedule an appointment.
We look forward to seeing our Middle Schoolers on Monday!
